About offGrd

The offline messenger for iPhone, built to work when your signal doesn’t.

What offGrd is

offGrd is an offline messenger for iPhone. It lets you message and stay in touch with the people near you when there is no cell signal and no Wi-Fi, by passing encrypted messages straight from phone to phone.

It is made for the moments your phone becomes useless: a sold-out show, a festival field, a packed stadium, an airport on a travel day, a blackout. The signal drops, the group scatters, and “where are you?” just spins.

How it works

offGrd skips the network. Nearby phones that have the app connect to each other over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and every phone in range can pass messages along. A bigger crowd means longer reach. If someone is out of range, your message waits and is delivered when they come near.

The catch is that it only works with people who also have offGrd, so get your group to install it before the next show, not during it. See the frequently asked questions for more.

Built to be private

There are no accounts, no phone numbers and no email addresses to hand over. Direct messages are end-to-end encrypted, so the phones that relay them only see scrambled data. offGrd has no analytics or tracking, and no server stores your messages. The details are in the privacy policy.

Who makes offGrd

Abhishek Kale develops offGrd. Everything in it, from the phone-to-phone networking to the privacy policy, is built around one idea: never lose your people again.
