What is offGrd?
offGrd is an offline messenger for iPhone. It lets you message and stay in touch with the people near you when there is no cell signal or Wi-Fi, by passing encrypted messages directly from phone to phone.
Does offGrd work without cell service or internet?
Yes. Messages travel directly between nearby phones over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, so there is no tower, no network and no server involved. You do not need a cell signal or an internet connection.
Do my friends need offGrd too?
Yes. offGrd only works with people who also have it installed, so get your group to download it before the festival, trip or game, not on the night.
Does offGrd work better in a crowd?
Yes. Every nearby phone running offGrd can pass messages along, so a bigger crowd extends your reach. If someone is out of range, your message waits and is delivered as soon as they come near.
Are my messages private?
Direct messages are end-to-end encrypted, and phones that relay them only see scrambled data. There are no accounts, no tracking and no analytics. Mesh-wide broadcast announcements are not encrypted by design, so do not put anything sensitive in them. Read the full privacy policy for details.
Do I need an account, phone number or email to use offGrd?
No. You pick a display name and go. There is no sign-up, no phone number and no email address required.
